Appaloosa Bean (bush, dry)

1 customer review

Price range: $4.95 through $76.75

Phaseolus vulgaris

Heirloom | Cool Soil Adapted | Bush

A reliable stout bush bean for short season areas. This bean is striking, with its half white and half marbled purplish brown – like the rump of an appaloosa pony. Though it’s story seems somewhat muddled, it appears to have originated in Idaho and Eastern Washington. We have been impressed with its ability thrive in cool soils. Soils that most other beans can’t tolerate.
When cooked, the flavor is somewhere between a pinto and a red bean. They generally remain more intact than pinto beans when cooked.
