This is a highly regarded medicinal herb that is known to have many uses, but is primarily utilized in treatment of respiratory conditions. Also know as horse heal, or our favorite, elfwort. The celts revered it as a healer of magical wounds from the arrows of elves.
We love having this plant on dry borders of the garden where it can send up its sunflower-like spikes. It is a tough perennial that becomes a large plant in just a few years with spikes of yellow finely petalled flowers and large arrow shaped leaves. This variety hails from southern and eastern Europe but has naturalized world wide.
