Lens culinaris
A wonderful nitrogen fixer, lentils are a pulse that are planted in the cool season around the time you would plant peas. We have used them as a filler crop to condition the soil before planting fall greens, as well as getting a harvest of lentils for our winter larder. We plant in March or early April and harvest once plants are drying down in July.
This variety is productive with large sized blue-green lentils. It hails from Chile and is brought to us by Horton Nash who has been growing it for the last 8 years in high desert regions.
Grown by Horton Nash, Paonia Colorado.
