Great for braiding | Bright flavor | Long storing

This super long storing softneck variety is awesome for braiding and develops large heads with up to ten large cloves per head. The cloves are easy to peel with a classic, bright flavor– plenty spicy, but not too hot!

This stellar variety is the legacy of Vicky Kingsland who has been stewarding it since 1970 after receiving it from a grocery store in Idaho. Over the last 53 years, she grew this variety using organic and Ruth Stout inspired methods. Over time she carefully selected it for storability and other desirable traits. She would even go as far as to plant 2 year old seeds.

This amazingly long storing variety produces consistent high quality heads with large, easy to peel cloves. Such a gift! Thank you Keegan Athey and Affinity Farm for sharing this variety with us. We are honored to offer and share in this beautiful legacy.

Now taking pre-orders to be shipped in late September.

Please place a separate order for seeds if you want the seeds shipped now. If the order contains both seeds and Garlic then everything will ship together in late September.

Description

Growing instructions:

When you receive your package, inspect your order right away and contact us with any questions or concerns. Store in a cool, dark place until you are ready to plant. Not in the refrigerator.

How to grow:

Plant 2-4 weeks prior to ground freezing or prior to your coldest time of year. After breaking cloves apart (not peeling), plant cloves root end down (blunt end) 6-9″ apart with row 9″-12″ apart. On our farm we plant our garlic at 9″ apart, rows 9″ apart. Mulch with straw, leaves, or old hay going into the winter.

Harvest and curing

In most climates garlic will be ready early to mid July. Stop watering about 2 weeks prior to harvest. Garlic is ready to harvest when the bottom two sets of leaves are completely dry and when top 5-6 leaves are still 50% green. Pull garlic and hang in a well ventilated area to cure. Cure for 3-4 weeks until the tops are dry. Cut off roots and tops 1.5 ” above heads. Then store in a ventilated container in a cool dark place. Ideal conditions are between 55-65 degrees and 45-60% humidity.

Very excited about this garlic. The seed garlic was beautiful and big; I waited probably 1-2 weeks before planting and the cloves still looked great.

This is so wonderful, I’m doubling my garlic area, so that I can grow more of this varietal, braid, and give as gifts! I’m not normally into soft neck garlic, but this is a keeper!
