An uplifting, joyful, and bright, harbinger of summer, Rocky Mountain penstemons dot the rocky slopes of the southern Rocky Mountains from May to July. They are a fantastic addition to the garden or landscaping, growing into dense 3-foot-wide mats of flowers. They make a great ground cover. Blooms late May through early July. Typified by a beautiful periwinkle tubular corollas with two lobbed upper lips and three on its lower lip. Fibrous roots create dense mats of flowers, make them a great ground cover. A biennial, it flowers in the second year of growth. They are a very hardy long-lived perennial. Can withstand cold conditions as well as drought.
